Dear reader,
Reviews are one of the most powerful ways to either promote or destroy a piece. Kabul70 does not write reviews with the intentions of selling or convincing any audience in regards with a drama, book, movie or any piece of review that is written. The following review is simply Kabul70’s personal opinions, and does not intend to endorse with any corporate or commissional purposes.
Remarriage and Desires, or 블랙의 신부 (bullek ui shinbu, meaning Bride in Black) was released in 2022, popularising the genre of politics, business and the theme of power. Each character’s contribution to the drama was praise-worthy, making the drama full of an enriching and satisfying experience for viewers. Although the story is a typical revenge plot, what draws the viewer to the drama is the constant drive for power seen from the unstoppable villains and heroes, and heroines of the show.
Remarriage and Desires is a revenge story, with the main character of Hye-Seung devastated after facing her husband’s death. Alhough things did not end well before his death, Hye-Seung is driven with the thirst for revenge after she meets the murderer of her husband. With fascinating scenes of a masqeurade party and the push and pull aspects between the strong and the weak, Hye-Seung finds herself climbing up the power of strength and the rich, until she is strong enough to make the other characters of this game play for her.
It is believed that this drama was able to perform well due to the smashing dialogues with deep meanings behind the words. The facial expressions of the main lead characters, and the fine line between professionalism and desire is seen accurately and passionately from the villains of this show. It captivates the audience and encourages the same dark question that everyone faces at least once in their life – to what extent can you go for your desires?
The portrayal of this show was commendable. In quite a few scenes, the director would use abstract art to showcase the two worlds in which the strong and the weak had lived in. The cliffhanger of each episode, coupled with the main song that each episode ended in would always leave the viewers attracted to what would happen next. With only 8 episodes, this drama is a binge-watcher.
